Using YEP with MR2/ice
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
USING YEP WITH MR2/ICE
----------------------
Although YEP was programmed for use with YARN (off-line
mail/news reader), YEP can now work with MR2/ice Internet
email client, to add wierd and wonderful, and sometimes
even practical, flexibility to your email.
You must of course use an external editor with MR2/ice in
order to use Yep. The only other setting that is required
is the following option must be checked in the MR2/ice
setup:
[ ] Include message header inside message editor.
Then of course you need to do the regular YEP configurion
as outlined in the YEP.DOC. In short: set your external
editor in MR2/ice to "yep.exe", and then edit your YEP.CFG.
WHAT ABOUT MR2/ICE BUILT IN TEMPLATES?
--------------------------------------
MR2/ice has some interesting build in template options.
It is certainly more flexible than many email clients.
YEP, however, has some features not found in MR2/ice which
you may find useful, or entertaining. Some of the features
of YEP include:
* insertion of random elements in headers or sigs
* ability to execute program to gather information
to dynamically include
* definable text "macros" to do such things as:
- easily insert commonly referenced documents
- pgp encrypt portions of messages
- fast uuencode (from right in your message!)
* starts up external editor with cursor positioned
pasted the header (if your editor supports it)
* automatically use different SIG or Header elements
based on who the message is addressed to or the date.
* PGP support to encrypt blocks to multiple persons,
and (optional) save PGP password encrypted so you
don't have to type it every time, or use PGPPASS.
* Automatic URL capturing from quoted reply text
* inclusion of odd whimsical data like the current
phase of the moon, or the percentage of the year
gone by -- or anything you can output from a
text mode program!
FINAL NOTES
-----------
YEP is a "text mode" program, and it isn't exactly designed
to be pretty, or particularly easy to use! It's a bit of a
"hacker" toy. You may find it a bit confusing at first. All
of the configuration is done by editing the YEP.CFG file with
a plain text editor. The CFG file is fairly long. Don't worry,
the only REALLY IMPORTANT part of it is the first option
where it says "Editor =" -- you must set up your text editor
there. By default it is set to EPM. I suggest FTE, or FTEPM,
as my personal favorite!
All the other settings are either optional or will work
fine with the default settings. You can play around with
them at any time.
